सामान्य परिचय
मुण्डा झारखण्ड की तीसरी सर्वाधिक जनसंख्या वाली जनजाति है जो राज्य के कुल जनजातीय जनसंख्या का 14.21% है। मुण्डा जनजाति को होड़ोको भी कहा जाता है।
झारखण्ड में निवास स्थान
मुण्डा झारखण्ड राज्य के मूल निवासी हैं। राँची, हजारीबाग, गिरिडीह, पलामू, गुमला, सिंहभूम आदि इनका मुख्य निवास स्थल है।

प्रजातिय समूह एवं भाषा परिवार
प्रोटो-ऑस्ट्रेलायड प्रजातिय समूह तथा ऑस्ट्रो-एशियाटिक (मुण्डा भाषा परिवार) से इनका संबंध है।
भाषा
मुण्डा जनजाति की भाषा मुंडारी/होड़ो जगर कहलाती है।
युवागृह
इस जनजाति के युवागृह को गितिओड़ा कहते हैं।
विवाह (अरण्डी)
आयोजित विवाह इस जनजाति का सर्वाधिक प्रचलित है वधू मूल्य गोंनोंग टका (कुरी गोंनोंग) कहलाता है। मुंडा समाज में तलाक की प्रक्रिया साकमचारी के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है।
आर्थिक व्यवस्था
जीविका चलाने लिए कृषि कार्य और पशुपालन करते हैं।
प्रमुख र्पव/त्योहार
बाहा/सरहुल, बुरू र्पव, सोहराई (पशु पुजा हेतू), बतौली (छोटा सरहुल), करमा, जतरा, जोमनवा आदि है।
राजनीतिक शासन व्यवस्था
मुंडा शासन व्यवस्था के अंतर्गत गांव का प्रधान मुंडा कहलाता है। मुंडा गांव के पंचायत को हातु और उसका प्रमुख हातु मुंडा या मुंडा कहलाता है। मुंडा शासन व्यवस्था का सर्वोच्च अंग परहा या पड़हा होता है जो 15 से 20 मुंडा गाँवों / पंचायतों को मिलाकर बनता है जिसका प्रमुख मानकी कहलाता है। इस समाज के पंचायतों की बैठकी अखड़ा में की जाती है। मुंडा एवं मानकी का पद वंशानुगत होता है।
धार्मिक व्यवस्था
सिंगबोंगा मुंडा जनजाति के सर्व प्रमुख देवता हैं। पाहन द्वारा इस जनजाति का धार्मिक अनुष्ठान, पुजा स्थल सरना में संपन्न की जाती है। इनके अन्य देवी-देवता जैसे: हातु बोंगा (ग्राम देवता), देशाउली (गाँव की सबसे बड़ी देवी), और ओड़ाबोंगा (कुल देवता) हैं। मुंडा टोटम (इष्ट चिन्ह) की भी पूजा करते हैं। मुण्डा जनजाति की प्रसिद्ध लोककथा सोसो बोंगा है।
