सामान्य परिचय
झारखण्ड में संथाल जनजातियों के बाद उरांव जनजाति की जनसंख्या सबसे अधिक है। यह झारखण्ड की दूसरी और भारत की चौथी सबसे बड़ी जनसंख्या वाली जनजाति है। 2011 की जनगणना के अनुसार उरांवों की जनसंख्या राज्य की कुल जनजातीय जनसंख्या का 18.14% है। वे स्वयं को कुडुख (अर्थ- मनुष्य) कहते हैं। इस जनजाति का मूल निवास दक्कन माना जाता है।
झारखंड में निवास स्थल
उरांव जनजाति अधिकांशत: राँची, पलामू, लातेहार, हजारीबाग, सिंहभूम क्षेत्रों में रहती है।
उल्लेखनीय बात
1915 मे शरतचंद्र राय ने ‘ द उरांव ऑफ छोटानागपुर ‘ नामक पुस्तक लिखी, जो इस जनजाति से जुड़ा प्रमुख पुस्तक है।
प्रजातिय समूह और भाषायी परिवार
उरांव द्रविड़यन प्रजातीय समूह के अतंर्गत आते है, और उनका संबंध द्रविड़ भाषा परिवार से है।
भाषा
इनकी भाषा “कुरुख” है और वे देवनागरी लिपि का उपयोग करते हैं।
युवागृह
धुमकुड़िया उरांव जनजाति का युवागृह है। इसमें 10-11 वर्ष की आयु में प्रवेश मिलती है, तथा विवाह होते ही इसकी सदस्यता समाप्त हो जाती है। धुमकुड़िया में प्रवेश सरहुल र्पव के समय 3 वर्ष में एक बार मिलती है। इसमें युवकों के लिए जोंख-एड़पा और युवतियों के लिए पेल-एड़पा नामक अलग-अलग युवागृह है। जोंख एडपा को धांगर कड़िया भी कहा जाता है, जिसके मुखिया को धांगर या महतो तथा बड़की धांगरिन पेल-एड़पा की देखभाल करने वाली महिला को कहते हैं।
गोत्र (किली)
उरांव जनजाति के 14 प्रमुख गोत्र हैं।
विवाह
उरांव जनजाति एक अंतर्विवाही जनजाति है और उनमें समगोत्रिय विवाह पर प्रतिबन्ध है। आयोजित विवाह का प्रचलन सर्वाधिक है, जिसमे वर पक्ष को वधु मूल्य देना पड़ता है जिसे, गोनोम कहते हैं।
आर्थिक व्यवसाय
उरांव जनजाति का प्रमुख पेशा कृषि है। इन जनजातियों ने छोटानागपुर क्षेत्र में प्रवेश के बाद जंगलों को साफ़ करके कृषि करना प्रारंभ किया। ऐसे उरांव को “भुईहर” कहा गया, तथा वे अपनी भूमि को “भुईहर भूमि” कहते हैं। पसरा नामक एक विनिमय प्रथा जिसके अंतर्गत किसी को खेत जोतने, कोड़ने के लिए हल-बैल अथवा मेहनत से सहायता प्रदान की जाती है।
प्रमुख र्पव
सरहुल/खद्दी(फूलों का पर्व), रोआपुना, जोमनवा और बतौली आदि। उरांव जनजाति के लोग प्रत्येक वर्ष वैशाख में विसू सेंदरा, फाल्गुन में फागु सेंदरा तथा वर्षा ऋतु के आरम्भ होने पर जेठ शिकार करते है।
राजनीतिक शासन व्यव्स्था
उरांवों के परंपरागत शासन व्यवस्था को पड़हा/परहा पंचायत शासन व्यवस्था कहते हैं। उरांव जनजाति के गांव का पंचायत पंचोरा तथा गांव का प्रधान महतो (मुखिया) कहलाता है और महतो के सहयोगी को मांझी कहते है।
धार्मिक व्यवस्था
सर्वप्रमुख देवता को धर्मेश या धर्मी कहते हैं जिन्हें प्रकाश देने वाले सूर्य के समान माना जाता है। अन्य देवी-देवताओ जैसे: पहाड़ देवता- मरांग बुरू, ग्राम देवता- ठाकुर देव और सीमांत देवता- डीहवार है। सरना इस जनजाति का मुख्य पूजा स्थल है। उनके धार्मिक प्रधान को पाहन कहते हैं और बैगा, पाहन का सहयोगी होता है जिसका काम ग्रामीण देवी-देवताओं को शांत करना है।
कुछ महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य
उरांव जनजाति का सबसे लोकप्रिय नृत्य यदुर है और नृत्य स्थल अखाड़ा कहलाता है।
